What Railroaded! Is About
A betting operation runs in the back room of a beauty parlour. The woman who owns the salon and her crooked boyfriend plan to rob it. The job goes wrong, blood is spilled, and the pair pin the crime on an innocent young man. Both the evidence and the witness are against him. His sister and a detective set about clearing him. Anthony Mann's seventy-two minute film is one of the small-budget examples of film noir. John Ireland plays the killer; the character is cold, calculating and unusually brutal for its period. Shadow and darkness dominate the photography. A few years later Mann would move into westerns and make his real name there.
