What Red Fish Is About
On a stormy night Ivon, a chorus girl, Hugo, a failed writer, and Hugo’s young son Carlos arrive at a hotel by the sea. The three of them go out to look at the waves, and shortly afterwards Ivon comes back asking for help, because the boy has fallen into the water. As the investigation that starts at the hotel goes on, what is being said and what happened stop matching. The film is counted among the best known works of Spanish film noir and was thought advanced in its day for treating crime without handing out a moral. Carlos Blanco wrote the screenplay. Arturo de Cordova and Emma Penella appear in Jose Antonio Nieves Conde’s ninety five minute film, completed in 1955.
