Reds

An American journalist and his writer partner, running a relationship full of political argument, set off to see the revolution in Russia for themselves. On their return it is far harder to hold the same views at home. The film places passages of elderly people who actually lived through the period speaking to camera between the scenes, and these witnesses contradict each other. The narrative thereby opens up the history it is telling. Warren Beatty directed, produced and starred, and won the Oscar for directing. Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson are in the cast. Before watching: it runs over three hours and was designed in two parts. The political arguments are detailed and not summarised.
