Heaven Can Wait

An American football player is taken to the next world ahead of his time during an accident. By the time the mistake is noticed his body has been cremated and a new one has to be found. The new body belongs to a millionaire whose wife and secretary are about to kill him. While keeping this as comedy the film makes his wanting to get back to the team its engine; the narrative asks whether identity is in the body or the intention and gives no answer. Warren Beatty and Buck Henry directed together, with Beatty in the lead. It is a new adaptation of a film from the nineteen-thirties. Who it's for: those who like light fantasy comedy. Who it's not for: viewers who need the idea taken seriously; the film is untroubled by questions of logic.
