Minnie has been dropped by her married boyfriend, is tired, and expects very little. Seymour Moskowitz parks cars, has messy hair, is loud, and never stops talking. After he defends her from a disastrous blind date he falls hopelessly in love with her. They have nothing in common, which is precisely John Cassavetes's point. The scene in which Minnie explains how the movies set women up is one of the hardest answers ever written to romantic comedy. Alongside Gena Rowlands and Seymour Cassel, the real mothers of two of the people involved are in the cast. It ends up a tender film about how absurd love is.
