Regular Guys

Christoph, a policeman with rather too much confidence in himself, wakes up after a bad night with his fiancée to find Edgar beside him: a gay car mechanic. When his girlfriend throws him out he has nowhere to stay and ends up moving in with Edgar. At work he is also paired with a new female colleague. Christoph's head is thoroughly scrambled. Directed by Rolf Silber, this German comedy treats the situation not as a scandal but as an everyday confusion. The film watches a man who carries masculinity and being a policeman as an identity at the moment he falls outside his own definitions. The jokes come mostly out of Christoph's panic rather than out of Edgar; Edgar is not turned into the stock comic figure of the genre. The result is a warm, light comedy that humiliates nobody.
