Rend Your Heart

As a young man he fought the military dictatorship in Brazil as a militant nobody knew by name. Forty years have passed and the dictatorship has fallen. Now his own son calls him conservative, outdated and behind the times. The film builds the failure of two generations to understand each other not as a quarrel but as a reckoning. How something once taken as new and revolutionary grew old is the real question of the account. The relation between father and son is the carrying thread of the story. The film does not decide whether the charge is fair; it lets both of them speak. Marco Ricca, Drica Moraes and Chay Suede appear in Jorge Furtado’s hundred and fifteen minute Brazilian film, completed in 2018.
