Return

Return (2015) is a low budget British horror film and, at forty five minutes, does not even qualify as a feature. Cathy Reed has spent most of her life institutionalised with a diagnosis of schizophrenia. As a child her parents believed she was possessed and had priests work on her, while medicine said something else entirely. Decades later she is discharged, given a flat, and left to live alone. Once she is alone the line between her nightmares and the room stops holding. The film has been seen by very few people, has no settled critical opinion, and barely had a release. If you find it, go in accordingly: the production values are low and the acting is uneven. One correction worth making. The English synopsis calls it a tale of terror, and automated translation into Turkish rendered that as a story about terrorism. It is a horror film. There is nothing political in it. Good for: viewers who follow independent horror or want something that finishes quickly. Less good for: mental illness is used as a horror device and the film has no nuance about it. Anyone wanting well made horror should look elsewhere.
