What Revanche Is About
A woman working in a Vienna brothel and the man who helps out there plan a bank robbery to escape together, the job goes wrong, and afterwards he hides on a farm in the country. Gotz Spielmann splits the film in two: tension in the city, silence in the countryside. The second half is the real film, because the long sequences of him splitting wood carry the rage without a word. Coincidence does not strain the plot here so much as establish a small, believable world.
