What October November Is About
Götz Spielmann made this family piece after the widely praised Revanche. Sonja, an actress working in Berlin, comes back to the family place in rural Austria to see her dying father, and is met by her sister Verena, who has spent her life looking after him and the mountain inn. The reunion opens old wounds and brings out what has been kept quiet for years. The film proceeds quietly and attentively; it does not take a side, it counts what the two sisters have cost each other. Nora von Waldstätten plays Sonja and Ursula Strauss plays Verena, with Sebastian Koch also in the cast. It screened at Toronto in 2013.
