A couple meet, are together, separate, are with others, and meet again. The film does not tell this in order. It shows the same moment twice: once as he remembers it, once as she does. They remember the same evening, the same room and the same conversation differently; the light is different, the weather is different, the words spoken are different. The narrative moves between the two memories. Valerio Mieli writes and directs. Luca Marinelli and Linda Caridi take the leads. The formal idea is the unreliability of memory. The chronology is entirely broken up; the scenes jump between years and which time it is can only be worked out from details. The subject is the difference between how the two remember: he carries the past by softening it, she by hardening it. The film does not state that as a thesis, it shows it through the cutting. The photography follows the structure; colour and light change from scene to scene even in the same room. Luca Marinelli is among the actors who have come forward in Italian cinema recently and the performance here is measured. Its limit is the structure; the jumping becomes tiring after a while and the narrative does not advance. Who it is for: viewers who like Italian relationship films and narratives that play with time. Who it is not for: nothing happens, the structure is demanding, and nothing outside the two characters is described.
