Rodents of Unusual Size

The Louisiana coast has dealt with hurricanes and oil spills for decades. Now there is another problem. Rodents called nutria are multiplying in the swamp. The animals were brought from South America. They are not native there. They can weigh as much as twenty pounds. With their orange teeth they chew through plant roots. The coastal wetland is wearing away because of it. That wetland is a shield against hurricanes. The town of Delacroix Island is left exposed without it. Thomas and his neighbours have lived there for generations. A bounty is put up to bring the numbers down. Hunters work at it but cannot keep up with the breeding. The documentary tells that struggle without losing its humour. Wendell Pierce narrates the seventy one minute documentary. It is an American production Jeff Springer, Quinn Costello and Chris Metzler finished in 2017.
