Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea

The Salton Sea is an inland sea in Southern California. The lake formed by accident in the middle of the desert. It lies minutes away from the cities. The documentary tells of its rise and its fall. The area was once a holiday place. It was spoken of as the California Riviera. Boaters flocked to it. The view is different now. Fish die along the shore in great numbers. The resorts have been left to rot. The summer nights are scorching. The film describes the area as a forgotten ecological disaster. People who live in the area speak in the documentary. One of them is Leonard Knight, who built the structure called Salvation Mountain in the desert with his own hands. John Waters narrates the fifty seven minute documentary. Chris Metzler and Jeff Springer made it. The American documentary was finished in 2006.
