Rolling to You

A French comedy built on a lie. Jocelyn is a wealthy businessman who invents stories constantly to approach women. One day, sitting in a wheelchair at his mother's house, a neighbour takes him for disabled. He does not correct her. So he meets her sister Florence, who really does use a wheelchair. As the relationship goes on the lie grows and he cannot confess it. What is interesting is the character of Florence. She is not shown as someone to be pitied; she runs her own business, travels, makes jokes, and is more independent than Jocelyn. Most of the comedy comes from her. The production also caused argument about the representation of disability: a non-disabled actor playing a disabled part, and the lie being used as comic material, were both criticised. Franck Dubosc wrote, directed and played the lead; he comes from comedy and this is his first film as director. Alexandra Lamy plays Florence. It did well at the French box office. A pleasant choice for anyone who likes French romantic comedy. For a viewer sensitive about how the subject is handled, the film sustains the lie for a long time and presents it as comedy.
