Roza of Smyrna

In Smyrna in 1922, Roza, the daughter of a wealthy family, is preparing for her wedding. Decades later she is an old woman in Athens, living with her granddaughter and still carrying a secret from those days. Around the same time a collector named Dimitris finds a bloodstained wedding dress and an old photograph in an antique shop in Izmir, and what he finds sends him after the story that links the two periods. Giorgos Kordelas builds the film around the burning of Smyrna in September 1922, an event whose responsibility historians still dispute. The film looks at it from the Greek side and does not pretend otherwise. The Turkish actor Yilmaz Gruda is in the cast, and what it tells is a love story between two peoples who were pulled apart from each other.
