Ivan Mazayev learns that some children have been left behind in a sinking school and slowly loses his mind trying to save them. The film is built as a parable of the Last Judgement; where each successive catastrophe comes from is never made clear, and the suspicion that everything happening is in fact a staged performance never lifts from the narrative. Konstantin Lopushansky’s hundred and nine minute Russian film was made with Lenfilm among its producers. It won the best producer prize at the Kinotavr festival in Sochi in 1995 and the Ecumenical Jury prize at the Berlin Film Festival. Viktor Mikhaylov and Aleksandr Ilin star.
