The Swaying Waterlily

Handan and Korhan are a middle aged couple living in one of the better districts of Istanbul. To fill her life Handan keeps inventing new occupations for herself and expects her husband’s support for each new venture. Korhan, over the years, has decided these enthusiasms are hollow and no longer takes her seriously. Failing to find the support she is after, Handan imitates her writer friend Şermin and sets about writing herself; the wish looks innocent at first but turns in time into jealousy and heads off in quite another direction. Seren Yüce’s hundred and eight minute Turkish German co-production is the director’s second feature. Songül Öden and Tolga Tekin take the leads; it opened on 23 September 2016 and won the prize for best screenplay at the 40th Montreal World Film Festival.
