Karl meets Nini at a railway station in Berlin. They talk for a few hours and that is enough for him. But her phone number is lost as she heads back to Vienna. Karl has one thing to go on: she mentioned that every year on her birthday she eats cake at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna. He gives up his job, moves to Vienna, and settles down to wait for that day. In the meantime he meets other people, builds another life, and starts wondering whether what he is waiting for is still the same thing. Tine Rogoll directs, adapting Marie Bostroem's novel. A hundred and twelve minutes, with Max Hubacher as Karl. It follows the familiar shape of German romantic comedy, and shows off Vienna and the cake at length.
