What Saint Mary Is About
The people of Jerusalem are waiting for Imran to have a son and for the awaited saviour to be born; but Imran and Anna have a daughter and they name her Mary. Given to the temple at six, Mary grows up there under the protection of Zechariah until she is sixteen, and the account gives these years and the birth that follows on the basis of Islamic sources, above all the nineteenth chapter of the Quran. The film builds Mary not around miracles but as a person carrying what has been laid on her.
