Salama Is Fine

A courier sets out with money he is meant to deposit at the bank, but he arrives too late. He takes a room at a hotel for the night and leaves the money in the hotel safe. At the hotel he is taken for the Prince of Kandahar. As the misunderstanding grows he does not correct it; on the contrary, he insists on keeping it up in order to bring his enemies into the open. The film tells class difference through a change of clothes; how people treat whom is the real subject. The comedy is built on the tension of how long a false identity can hold. Traces of the stage comedy vein of Egyptian cinema of 1937 can be seen in it. Naguib ElRihani takes the lead in the black and white film. Niazi Mostafa’s ninety seven minute Egyptian film was completed in 1937.
