What Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple Is About
The middle film of a trilogy; watched alone, where Musashi came from is missing. Takezo now carries the name Miyamoto Musashi, his reputation has spread, and he returns to Kyoto to settle accounts with the Yoshioka school. Its men lay ambushes and he walks into them knowingly. Along the way he picks up the boy Jotaro, who attaches himself to him, and meets Sasaki Kojiro, the rival who will matter most. Otsu goes on waiting, and Musashi chooses the sword again. Mifune plays him angry and unfinished; the closing duel is the best known scene in the series.
