What Scaffolding Is About
Asher is seventeen and split between two men: the charismatic teacher pulling him toward literature and the blunt father who wants him to take over the scaffolding business. One offers a life defined by words, the other a life defined by work with the hands, and the boy does not know which he belongs to. Matan Yair uses poetry and scaffolding as two ends of the same life, and the death of the teacher carries the story somewhere nobody expects. Masculinity, class and the trade inherited from a father are its real subject, and nobody is proved right.
