What Schellebelle 1919 Is About
The First World War is over, but on the Van de Velde farm it seems to be going on still. The father and the son fought in the trenches of the Yser and in 1919 are still missing; the mother has died. The farm is now run by the eldest daughter, Coralie, on her own. She took in twenty five orphans during the war, but the child welfare board wants to put them in an orphanage. At the same time some of the local notables lay a sly plan to take possession of the farm. Coralie and the children stand against it. The film tells the aftermath of war not as a state of peace but as a time when accounts are settled again. Arne Vereecken and Ester Cattoir appear in the hundred minute Belgian film by Johan Heldenbergh and Kenneth Taylor, completed in 2011.
