What Schoolgirls Is About
1992, Zaragoza. Eleven-year-old Celia lives with her mother and attends a school run by nuns. Brisa, a new classmate from Barcelona, opens a world outside what the school teaches: music, cigarettes, questions. Celia starts picking at the silence at home, at the things her mother has not told her. Pilar Palomero's first film, and it was named best film at the Goyas in Spain. Low-voiced, with little incident; it is about how much pressure growing up happens under. It also shows the Spain of those years, the conservative life underneath the Olympic and Expo excitement.
