What Shaolin Intruders Is About
A respected swordsman is killed on a routine courier run, and every piece of evidence points at a friend. Determined to clear the name, Lei Hsin decides the answer is inside the Shaolin Temple and tries three times to get in, meeting a different formation of monks on each attempt. Tong Kai, who directed this for Shaw Brothers, was the studio’s legendary fight choreographer, which is why the film’s centre of gravity is not the intrigue but the geometry of the formations, the traps and the temple itself. Derek Yee, Jason Pai Piao and Lau Yuk-Pok take the leads. After the first killing, members of four major martial arts houses start disappearing one by one, and the case stops being one murder and becomes the clearing out of an entire world.
