Vikram Batra joins the army and is sent to Kashmir. The narrative first gives his training, his family and the relationship with Dimple, whom he met at university. Then in 1999 the Kargil conflict begins. Units that crossed from the Pakistani side hold the high ground, and the Indian army has to take those heights from below. Batra's unit is ordered to take Point 5140 and then Point 4875. Vishnu Varadhan directs. Sidharth Malhotra plays Batra and also his twin brother Vishal. Kiara Advani plays Dimple. The story is real. Vikram Batra was killed in the Kargil conflict and received the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration, posthumously. The call sign he used on the radio is the film's title. The fighting takes place at altitude on steep slopes, and the film's strongest side is making the difficulty of that ground visible. The second half is the war and the first is the romance; the balance between them was argued over and the first half was found weak. It was released straight to a streaming platform in August 2021. Its limit is the tone; the narrative does not step outside the mould of heroism and the other side is never built as human. Who it is for: viewers who follow war films and Indian productions drawn from real events. Who it is not for: the nationalist register is high, the first half is slow, and the ending uses emotional pressure to the end.
