What Shinobi no Mono 2: Vengeance Is About
The film covers the years between 1582 and 1594. The warlord Oda Nobunaga does not believe he has destroyed every ninja who opposed him, and he is right: the servant who tastes his water first dies, and two ninja get away. He then watches the execution of those who were caught and asks for a harsher method in future. The masters change and the work of the ninja does not: get in unseen, kill, and leave nothing behind. This part of the series is remembered for showing the ninja not as legendary heroes but as people used up and discarded between great warlords. Raizo Ichikawa plays the lead in Satsuo Yamamoto’s ninety three minute Japanese film, completed in 1963.
