What Siblings Is About
Irene lives in Rome and is trying to build her own life. Her mother calls; she has to go back to Rimini and look after her autistic brother Omar. Irene goes. Omar does not want to live with her; he wants to be on his own and to be a singer. Irene turns that into a plan: she will teach her brother adult life. Shopping, buses, money, appointments. As the lessons go on it emerges that Irene's own life is not in order either, and teacher and pupil change places. Greta Scarano directs and co-wrote the script; it is her first feature. Matilda De Angelis plays Irene and Yuri Tuci plays Omar. Maria Amelia Monti and Paolo Hendel are in the cast. It is an Italian production. The film opened on 3 April 2025. The narrative rests on the book in which the Tercon siblings told their own story. Yuri Tuci, who plays Omar, is on the autism spectrum and this is his first film. The matter it treats is independence; the film shows protection as an obstacle too. The narrative does not ask pity for Omar; he is stubborn, funny and clear about what he wants. The film does not build the relation in one direction and describes Irene's burden as well. Rimini and the coastal town hold a place inside the narrative. The ending gives no large transformation. Its limit is tone; the narrative is light, the conflict soft, and some scenes come easily. Who it is for: viewers who like Italian family comedy and stories about siblings. Who it is not for: it is light, predictable, and the ending mild.
