Silver River

Thrown out of the cavalry unjustly, Mike McComb decides nobody will ever use him again and heads for Nevada. He climbs from the card table to a mine and from the mine to a company, becoming one of the most powerful silver magnates in the west. But he gets there by owing nobody anything, which means offending everybody. When the rival mining combines close ranks and his stubbornness costs him his wife and his old friends, the empire starts coming apart. Raoul Walsh's film is often read as the story of King David moved out west. It was adapted from Stephen Longstreet's novel. This was the last of the seven pictures Walsh and Errol Flynn made together, and after the shoot the director refused to work with him again. The film contains the same thing: a man who takes what he set out to take and loses himself doing it.
