What Sincere Heart Is About
At the centre of the account is a student. The young man is preparing for university. His father has made him a promise. If he passes he can have what he wants. A girl lives in the building opposite. She stays in a small flat with her sister. There is a wide gap in income between the two households. The two of them see each other through their windows. They make do with looking and smiling. A rumour goes round the neighbourhood about her. She is said to have a lung disease. The young man wants to send her to a sanatorium. For that he looks to his father. But his father is cautious about the request. Akira Ishihama and Keiko Awaji take the leads. Keisuke Kinoshita wrote the screenplay for Masaki Kobayashi’s Japanese film of 1953.
