Single Man

Gu Jia Gou is a small village. It lies about a hundred and fifty kilometres from Beijing. There are more men in the village than women. Some of the men bring wives from far away. Money changes hands for it. The women mostly come from Sichuan. The rest of the men stay unmarried. They pass their days together. They grumble and they gossip. Lao Yang is one of them. As a young man he loved a girl. They were not allowed to marry. She is now the wife of the village head. The two of them still meet in secret. That is not enough for Lao Yang. The film was Jie Hao’s first feature. It was shot in the director’s own village. Most of the cast are people who live there. The ninety four minute film is a Chinese production finished in 2010.
