What Sleeping Giant Is About
A summer on the shore of Lake Superior in Canada. Adam is there on holiday with his parents: quiet, polite, careful not to take up space. He falls in with two cousins, Riley and Nate. They are not what he is used to; they swear, jump off cliffs, and push each other constantly. Adam tries to keep up. Then Adam sees something about his father and tells the wrong person. What was a game between them turns real in a moment, and nobody backs down. Andrew Cividino directs; eighty-nine minutes. None of the three boys are professional actors. It screened in Critics' Week at Cannes in 2015 and was named the best Canadian first feature of the year.
