A community of Yetis in the Himalayas believes humans are a myth. When young Migo sees one, he collides with every rule the community has. The idea is to invert the usual cryptid story: the one doing the searching is not the human but the monster. Warner Animation Group produced it, with animation by Sony Pictures Imageworks in Autodesk Maya. Channing Tatum voices Migo and Zendaya voices Meechee, the Stonekeeper's daughter, with James Corden as Percy Patterson, a British wildlife filmmaker. Director Karey Kirkpatrick wrote the songs with his brother Wayne Kirkpatrick, the pair having previously written the Tony-winning Broadway musical Something Rotten!. Heitor Pereira wrote the score. On an 80 million dollar budget it grossed 214 million worldwide, 83.2 million domestically and 130.9 million abroad. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 76 percent with a measured consensus: a colourful distraction that should keep younger viewers entertained. Who it is for: families wanting animation with songs. Its subtext about belief and authority is sharper than expected. Who it is not for: anyone hoping for an adult layer. The film opens that question and does not follow it through.
