So Damn Easy Going

Christoffer Sandler's 2022 Swedish film follows Joanna, eighteen. She needs her ADHD medication but cannot afford it; her father is depressed and keeping the household running falls to her. The subject is the struggle to get hold of the medicine. Joanna starts stealing in small ways and the situation escalates; the narrative gives this not as a crime story but as an everyday necessity. At the same time she meets Audrey at school and wants for the first time to come close to someone. The narrative joins the two lines, showing through camera movement and sound how attention scatters on the days without medication. Who it's for: those who like Nordic youth drama and narratives with queer themes. Who it's not for: viewers expecting an easy resolution; the film leaves the problem with the health system open.
