So Dear to My Heart

Indiana at the turn of the century. Jeremiah Kincaid is a small boy on a farm. He takes charge of a black lamb born there and names him Danny. The lamb is a menace, forever getting into trouble, and his grandmother cannot abide the animal. All Jeremiah wants is to take Danny to the Pike County Fair and show him. Granny will not allow it. The only person on the boy's side is Uncle Hiram. Harold D. Schuster directs this Disney film, adapted from Sterling North's book. Animated passages break into the live action: whenever the boy is stuck, the pictures in his scrapbook come alive and offer him counsel. Burl Ives sings in it too.
