Solomon's Perjury 1: Suspicion

A fourteen-year-old is found dead after falling from the roof of his junior high school, and everything appears to point to suicide. Then an anonymous letter surfaces accusing three students of murder. While the school and the adults around it try to close the matter, the students take it into their own hands and set about holding a trial of their own to find the truth. This first half of a two-film adaptation covers everything up to the trial being convened; the hearing itself belongs to the second film. Izuru Narushima directed, adapting Miyuki Miyabe’s novel of the same name. Rather than reducing the death to puzzle material, the film looks at the silence inside a school and at adults not listening to children. It opened in March 2015.
