Someone Like You

Dawson is a young architect. His closest friend London dies and he cannot recover. Then he learns something: London had a twin. The two were separated as embryos and the sister does not know. Dawson decides to look for her. He does not know what he will do when he finds her, and the person he finds is not London but someone else. The narrative proceeds from there: Dawson tries to put one person in another's place and it turns out not to work. Tyler Russell directs and wrote the screenplay with Karen Kingsbury. Sarah Fisher, Jake Allyn, Lynn Collins and Robyn Lively are in the cast. The source is Kingsbury's novel of the same name; the author is known in America for bestselling Christian fiction and worked directly on the screenplay. The film opened on 2 April 2024, distributed by Fathom Events, and took 5.9 million dollars at the box office. At 121 minutes it is long for a production at this budget and the narrative cannot fill it. The matter it works at is grief and substitution; the narrative discusses it openly but reaches its conclusion easily. Its dimension of faith is plain; the film does not hide who it is for. Its limit is the script; the premise is strained, the dialogue explanatory and the emotional turns unprepared. Who it is for: viewers who like Christian romantic drama and readers of Kingsbury. Who it is not for: the premise is not convincing, it runs long, and the resolution is too easy.
