What Somewhere in Palilula Is About
In the Romania of the sixties, the young doctor Serafim is posted to the hospital in Palilula, a town hard to find on a map, after the death of the paediatrician who worked there. He believes he is staying a short while, but he will spend the rest of his life there, and no children are born in the town at all. The townspeople, living in drink, feasting and strangeness, build a world half dream and half real. The first feature by Silviu Purcarete, who comes from the theatre, moves like a surreal banquet and works through image rather than through telling. Aron Dimeny and George Mihaita appear in the hundred and forty five minute Romanian film, completed in 2012.
