Sookshmadarshini

Priyadarshini is a housewife in a neighbourhood. A man called Manuel moves into the house opposite with his elderly mother Grace. He is polite, cheerful and helpful. Priya starts to think something does not fit: what he says does not add up, and the mother is never seen. She begins investigating with her friends from the neighbourhood. Nobody takes them seriously. MC Jithin directs, from a screenplay by Libin T.B. and Athul Ramachandran. Nazriya Nazim plays Priya and Basil Joseph plays Manuel. Where the film works is tone. The narrative proceeds like a neighbourhood comedy, with the women's gossip, the WhatsApp group and the daily detail as the source of the humour. The tension emerges slowly from inside that. Basil Joseph is known as a comic actor and a director; he is somewhere entirely different here and the performance is the most discussed thing about it. Nazriya Nazim returned to Malayalam cinema with this film after four years away. What interests the narrative is that a woman's suspicion is not taken seriously. Priya is right, and her husband, her neighbours and the police accuse her of exaggerating; the film builds that not as a thesis but as a natural part of the plot. It opened on 22 November 2024, drew positive reviews and took over 55 crore rupees worldwide. Who it is for: viewers who like Malayalam thriller comedy and narratives built on a neighbourhood. Who it is not for: the first half is slow, some supporting characters have no function, and the ending settles into the shape of the genre.
