What Soul Kicking Is About
Takis works a job in Athens, is married and has a small child, and every side of his life is squeezed. His boss humiliates him, his friends work deals behind his back, the trust between him and his wife is long gone, and the debts pile up. Conversation turns constantly into shouting, insult and threat; nobody listens to anybody. Looking for a way out, Takis also feeds the anger inside him, and his silence becomes his most dangerous state. Yannis Economides’s hundred and seventeen minute Greek film uses speech itself as a form of violence and sets the tone of the director’s later work. Errikos Litsis takes the lead; it was completed in 2006.
