What Sounds of Summer Is About
Per Simonsson's 2024 Swedish film follows a band formed in a small town at the end of the seventies. Per is an outsider at school and finds four friends through music. The film follows the band's rise. Rehearsals, first concerts and dealings with a record company come in turn; the narrative does not make the success look inevitable and keeps the band tied to its town. It rests on the real story of Gyllene Tider. The songs take wide space. The tone is nostalgic. Who it's for: those curious about music films and Nordic pop history. Who it's not for: viewers who do not know the band; the film assumes the songs.
