Spare Parts

Ludvik is a widower who has closed in on himself. At night he carries people in his van from Croatia, across Slovenia and into Italy. The young and inexperienced Rudi helps him. The two of them become a practised crew running almost the same route every night. Among themselves they call the people they carry spare parts; that name is theirs, not the film’s. Sooner or later the journeys end badly, and everyone pays for it. The film shows the smuggling not as an adventure but as a haulage job. How a way of looking that turns people into freight gets built is the real subject. Peter Musevski and Aljoša Kovačič appear in Damjan Kozole’s eighty seven minute Slovenian film, completed in 2003.
