St. Ives

The year is 1813. Jacques St. Ives, a hussar captain in the Napoleonic wars, is captured and sent to a prison camp in Scotland. The camp’s commander, Major Chevening, asks him for lessons in talking to women. Both men have their eye on the same person, Flora. She lives with her aunt, Miss Gilcrist, a well travelled woman who pays no attention to the rules. Jacques also learns that his grandfather and his brother, whom he believed dead years ago, are living near the camp. He decides to escape, find his family and marry Flora. Standing in his way are Chevening and an enemy he had not counted on. Jean-Marc Barr and Miranda Richardson take the leads, with Richard E. Grant and Anna Friel also in the cast. Harry Hook’s ninety minute film, a coproduction of four countries, was completed in 1998.
