The film builds the life of Ahmad Motevaselian, a divisional commander in the Iran-Iraq War, out of what the people who knew him say about him. It runs from his childhood to the front and from there to his disappearance in Lebanon in 1982: on 5 July 1982 four Iranians were stopped at a checkpoint on the road to Beirut and what became of them stayed unknown for decades. The images are shot to imitate archive footage of the period, while the film’s own view is openly that of a heroic account, and he is officially remembered that way in Iran. Hadi Hejazifar takes the lead in Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian’s ninety eight minute film, which won best film at the Fajr Festival in 2016.
