What Midday Event Is About
Iran in 1981, immediately after the removal of President Banisadr. The intelligence team pursuing the Mojahedin-e Khalq behind a wave of assassinations of state officials keeps finding old friends, acquaintances and even relatives on the other side. Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian shoots it in a grainy image close to documentary texture. The account runs squarely from the state’s point of view, and it is one side only of a period still argued about bitterly in Iran. The film won both best film and the audience award at the Fajr festival.
