Sean waits tables in Miami and leads a crew that stages sudden performances around the city. Emily wants to dance and happens to be the daughter of the developer planning to level their neighbourhood. It is the fourth film in the series and, in concept, the most political: dance here is protest rather than competition. One performance takes over a city council meeting. The shooting technique is worth noting. It was filmed natively in 3D rather than converted afterwards, using Red Epic cameras and 3ality Technica rigs, so the depth was actually recorded. Ryan Guzman plays Sean and Kathryn McCormick plays Emily. On a 33 million dollar budget it grossed 140.4 million worldwide, third in the franchise by box office. Reviews split, with 40 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 43 on Metacritic. The shared verdict is clear: the dance sequences are lively and kinetic and the story is predictably generic. Who it is for: people who came to watch choreography. Who it is not for: anyone expecting a script. The acting and dialogue exist to fill the gaps between numbers, and the film does not pretend otherwise.
