Sthanarthi Sreekuttan

Vinesh Viswanath's 2024 Malayalam film follows an election at a school. Sreekuttan, who sits at the back of the class, stands as a candidate and the classroom splits in two. The film does not look down on children's politics. Campaigning, alliances and betrayals work as a small copy of adult politics; the narrative gives this through humour and shows that losing has its place too. The cast are children and inexperienced. Aju Varghese and Saiju Kurup play teachers. The tone is light. Who it's for: those who like Malayalam school films and are looking for something to watch as a family. Who it's not for: viewers expecting an adult narrative; the film stays in a child's world.
