Stolen: Heist of the Century

Mark Lewis's 2025 documentary covers the 2003 robbery at the Antwerp Diamond Center. Diamonds worth hundreds of millions of dollars were taken from a vault considered impenetrable, and the case counts among the largest heists in the world. The film proceeds through the account of the Belgian detectives who ran the investigation, Agim De Bruycker and Patrick Peys. What it does best is show in detail how the security system was defeated: heat sensors, a magnetic field, a seismic alarm, and how each was neutralised. Against that, most of the diamonds were never recovered and parts of the case remain unclear; the film acknowledges this and still presents a definite account. There is more reconstruction than the story needs. Who it's for: viewers who like true crime documentaries and heist stories. Who it's not for: anyone troubled by unproven detail presented as certain, or who dislikes heavy use of reconstruction.
