Street Days

Checkie is middle aged, out of work and addicted to heroin. He spends his days on a street in Tbilisi outside his son’s school, where he was once a promising pupil himself. His wife struggles to pay the tuition while the bank takes the furniture out of the house. A group of policemen then blackmails Checkie into entrapping the son of his wealthy friend. From that point husband and wife are joined inside the same moral dead end. The film tells of a generation left behind in Georgia after the Soviet years. It offers addiction neither as a crime nor as colourful detail; it shows how a life narrows. Zura Begalishvili and Gaga Chikhladze appear in Levan Koguashvili’s eighty nine minute Georgian film, completed in 2010.
