What Such Is Life in the Tropics Is About
In Guayaquil a wealthy young man wants to remove two hundred and fifty families who have settled on land he inherited from his father. The man who leads the settlement is open to negotiation; he knows an eviction will not happen without blood. The business between them is handled by a land lawyer who holds both sides in his hands. The film does not tell the matter as a single fight; it sets several lives that touch each other side by side. All the layers of the city are inside the account and the tension sits everywhere. How the trade in land works is the real subject. The account does not put anyone entirely in the right. Andrés Crespo and Diego Cataño appear in Sebastián Cordero’s hundred minute film, a joint Ecuadorian, German and Mexican production, completed in 2016.
